Why the emphasis on Friends?

Given that established positive peer relationships are materialized markers of social skills success, emphasis is placed on children learning the skills to initiate and create mutual friendships beyond the therapy groups. In other words, the program’s mission is not only to train and educate individuals on prosocial skills, but most importantly, to create opportunities for them to experience positive peer interactions within a safe and professionally-supported setting. Providing children the tools to appropriately seek and make friends is therefore believed to be a critical start to a child’s future achievements inevitably dependent on multiple, healthy social relationships.
